S34I DEMONSTRATES HOW EO TECHNOLOGIES CAN CHANGE THE RAW MATERIALS INDUSTRY

The workshop “IMPLEMENTATION OF EARTH OBSERVATION TECHNOLOGIES IN THE RAW MATERIALS INDUSTRY” organised by S34I Project gathered more than 50 people in the GTK facilities located in Espoo, Finland on 26th of October.
Mining companies, research institutions, technology companies plus the project consortium shared their knowledge and expertise in how to Earth Observation tools and data can improve the extractive sector.

The aim? Promoting both, digital transition and sustainable mining in Europe. For that reason, stakeholders gave an overview of their activities and a local perspective was at the fore by highlighting the Finnish status related to Earth Observation (EO).

The project S34I aims at developing methodologies that use satellite data to improve exploration, and to monitor stability, waste volume generation and acid mine drainage.

Many thanks to all speakers and companies for their contribution: Finnish Environment Institute (Syke), Kuva Space, VTT, ICEYE, Spatineo and Mawson Gold Ltd .

A special mention to our project officer Dimitrios Biliouris, who was closely following the sessions!

An amazing milestone was achieved!
